COVID-19 and the 2020-21 School Year

We at Weldon Valley RE-20J hope the entire Weldon Valley community is enjoying the summer break.  We all deserve the time to recharge and reboot.  The District is extremely proud of the way our staff and students responded to the COVID-19 pandemic that reared it’s ugly head in mid March.  Without missing a beat and with no complaints the entire staff here at the school adjusted to unprecedented conditions and delivered to the best of their ability.  Students were placed in an extremely unfamiliar situation and in most cases responded successfully.

Understandably, Mr. Bauman and myself have been inundated with questions dealing with the start of the 2020-21 school year.  How are we going to start the school year?  Will we start with in-person learning here at the school or will we be continuing on-line instruction?  Will we be required to wear masks?  Will we have fall sports?  Will we be practicing social distancing?  What will we do if someone contract’s the virus?  All of these questions and more are front and center as we plan for an August 18th opening.

I won’t attempt to answer all of the above questions here in this post.  But, all of you should know that first and foremost, we want this COVID thing to go away.  Unfortunately, it may not for a while.  Regardless, one thing is for certain.  We want our students back in school!  I can’t say that enough.  As we prepare for starting 20-21 the overriding philosophy we are relying on to guide our judgement is this; We are going to provide the absolute least restrictive environment for our students that we can that will ensure the continued and constant safety and wellness of our students and staff.  We want our students to enjoy coming to school!  We want our staff to look forward to coming to work!  To accomplish this we will need your help and support.  There’s no doubt about it.  Decisions will have to be made as circumstances develop.  Rarely do we make decisions that satisfy everyone.  That’s part of the game and we know it.  But, please know that we will always refer to this philosophy when we consider remedies for problems that occur.

You will soon be receiving a text message from the school that will contain a link for you to respond to.  This short survey will be used to help create a plan for opening school in August.  Please take the time to respond to the survey, as your input is valued and appreciated.

I am so proud of Weldon Valley!  I truly mean that!  We have an excellent staff, certified and classified, we have an outstanding Principal and I personally view each and every one of our students as my own.  We are all Warriors thru and thru!  We’ll see you on August 18th, if not sooner.  GO WARRIORS !!
