Scholastic Reading Counts is a reading achievement program with a library of best-loved titles. Weldon Valley School Library has many of these titles available for check-out. Reading Counts books are marked with a special label or are shelved in specific areas.

The core of the Scholastic Reading Counts are books and quizzes. Students select books from thousands of titles that span all grade levels, topics, themes, cultures, etc. After reading the book students take a computer quiz to verify completion and comprehension of each book read. Access to the computerized quizzes is available in each elementary classroom, the library, and the elementary computer lab.

Students are awarded points for quizzes they have passed with a 70% or above accuracy rate. When students earn a specified amount of points within the allotted time, the students are offered the opportunity to participate in special activities or trips.

Students may earn additional points by reviewing books they have read and posting those reviews at this website.
